We’re thrilled to celebrate Awen Strategy, a proud member of the Maryland Innovation Center (MIC), for completing the Veteran Institute Procurement (VIP) START Program. This milestone demonstrates Awen Strategy’s commitment to growth, innovation and supporting GovCon small businesses as they navigate the competitive world of government contracting.
On October 24, 2024, Awen Strategy joined 47 other Veteran-owned businesses from 17 states and Washington, D.C., to graduate from the VIP START Program. This rigorous training program equips Veteran entrepreneurs with the skills and strategies they need to succeed in federal contracting, offering tools to bid on and win contracts with military and civilian agencies.
Building Confidence in Federal Contracting
Designed as the first program of its kind in the country, VIP START delivers comprehensive, hands-on training led by industry and government experts. Over three days, participants dive deep into critical topics like compliance, accounting, marketing, proposal writing and more.
Reflecting on the experience, Jim Williams of Awen Strategy shared:
“VIP START transformed our federal contracting readiness from aspiration to action, equipping us with battle-tested strategies that any growth-focused small business can implement.”
This program isn’t just about technical knowledge—it’s about empowering Veteran-owned businesses to confidently pursue opportunities, grow their reach and make a meaningful impact in the GovCon space.
Opening Doors for Veteran-Owned Businesses
The VIP START Program, facilitated by the Montgomery County Chamber CommunityFoundation (MCCCF), is specifically tailored for Veteran-owned businesses that have been in operation for at least a year. Leaders must be fully committed to their business, working as full-time employees and actively driving its growth.
Thanks to generous partnerships with the Small Business Administration (SBA), Lockheed Martin, the State of Maryland and other sponsors, VIP START is offered at no cost to participants, ensuring accessibility for all eligible businesses.
Barbara Ashe, President of MCCCF, highlighted the program’s mission:
“We are honored to give back to the men and women who served our country by providing them with the tools they need to succeed as government contractors. We hope this training fosters their success as businesses and employers.”
